A little off-topic, but I feel the need...
"Hi Rob
This is just a quick note from SFX to let you know that your story was chosen as one of the runners-up in our writing competition.
The standard of entries was very high but the judges at Gollancz chose your tale, "Wolves at the Door", as one of the final stories (the overall winner was a chap called Colin Harvey, who's story "The Stinker" will be the lead story in the book).
We have printed your story, alongside other runners-up, in that book. It's being given away with the next issue of SFX, which hits the news-stand next week, from Wednesday 30 August.
Thanks again for entering the competition, and well done for the quality of your story. You can see your name on our website (www.sfx.co.uk) later on today."
I'm utterly gobsmacked. Happy, freaked out, frankly still shaking a little. It's the kind of vindication of the fact that I can put a meaningful narrative down on paper that I've never had before. This, in the week when Snatching Time gets a full West End screening as part of Frightfest.
I think I might just explode with joy. Or maybe that's just wind.

Growing up in the UK in the late 1980s and early 1990s, if you were at all interested in fantasy fiction, roleplaying games or films like "Labyrinth" and "Krull" there was only one show on Children's TV for you:
As a big Knightmare fan, I was thrilled when Hugo Myatt, who played Treguard the Dungeonmaster in Knightmare, agreed to take a leading role in the short film which was to become "Snatching Time". At the time, all I could tell Hugo was that the film would be a short horror film; because of the rules of the competition we were entering (The Halloween 48 Hour Film Challenge) I had neither a script nor a title before the challenge started. But despite this uncertainty, Hugo agreed to act in our production. As it turned out, Rob and I were able to write something tailored to Hugo's strengths, and he didn't let us down. His portrayal of Bob Snatcher is both alternately chilling and funny. His performance is wonderful, and I hope many people get to appreciate it.
Thanks to Illusion over at Knightmare.com (the best and most comprehensive Knightmare fansite on the web) for putting out the word amongst the Knightmare fan community about our Frightfest screening. To reiterate:
"Snatching Time" is screening at The Zone Horror Frightfest 2006 and tickets are now available to buy from the Odeon West End cinema or online via the Odeon website.
"Snatching Time"*

Odeon West End cinema in London.
*It will be screened before the survival horror "Broken".

Or if you are lucky you may still be able to buy a weekend pass for the bargain price of £140 for 4 days of horror: 24 feature films plus shorts and "Snatching Time" too! If they haven't already sold out, weekend passes can be bought from the Odeon West End cinema or online via the Odeon website.
I hope to see lots of fellow Knightmare fans there...
